titin protein
Titin is a protein found in the heart muscle.
Mutations cause titin to be truncated or cut short
The variants or mutations found in PPCM are also found in another type of heart disease.
It's called idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy a disease causing heart chamber walls to thin and stretch.
However, more than 90% of women with TTN mutations never develop PPCM!
So we continue to study other factors that combine with TTN & other mutations to cause PPCM.
